Facing AI, the book

Money is the measure of our decisions: let me bring out the successful trader in you

It is easy to get lost in the maze of market nonsense, because it is not only the basics of trading you have to master. You also need to know which retail strategies are worth avoiding. Nobody can be a successful trader without understanding how AI shapes the markets. That is exactly why my book, Facing AI: Trader strategies against the market's apex predator, fills a real gap, contains my own research, and saves you millions of forints' worth of training.

Ask yourself: are you ready to make more money in the markets?

The challenge

You have to climb Kilimanjaro if you want to be a successful trader

When you decided that the markets would be your playground, you probably pictured the sharp young people in suits on Wall Street. You were not far wrong: a trader's life really is a way of life in itself. Reality, though, is harder than that.

  • 85% of traders lose money in the markets. That is not something the promotional material advertises.
  • There are countless fast-moving challenges, and often the system itself works against traders.
  • Among unexpected, seemingly unpredictable pitfalls, you may well feel left on your own.

Why the battles are lost

Why is the failure rate among traders so high?

Based on my own experience, which includes a fair share of both failures and successes, I would say a few causes can be the deciding factor between an average trader and an above-average one.

There is no official, state-run training

There is no official trader training, least of all in the state education system. There is no regulation, no common framework setting a minimum standard, which leaves room for charlatans and unqualified instructors who do not even know the basics of trading.

Teaching yourself is expensive

You can spend the price of a house on courses and crash programmes full of empty phrases, with nothing to show for it. In the absence of regulation this is an extremely unregulated field, and nothing is guaranteed.

Ineffective trading strategies

Most retail strategies do not work, but few people realise it in time, so losses and failure simply keep accumulating. Nobody teaches you how to think, or how to adapt quickly to changing conditions.

The market moves with the times

Artificial intelligence in the markets: in Facing AI I publish my own research showing that AI really is present in the markets, and in most cases does not make life easier for traders.

Technical knowledge is not enough: you have to be there mentally too

Nobody prepares you for the mental and emotional demands of a trader's life, not even on the courses said to be the best. Yet attention, discipline, focus, emotional control, flexibility and objectivity are not minor qualities, especially if you want to avoid the trap of self-sabotage. A successful trader can also detach from stereotypes such as "the market makes people poor" or "it is built on fraud". Those burdens have to be handled mentally too.

What you get in the book

Facing AI: what you will learn in this much-needed trader's handbook

Facing AI: Trader strategies against the market's apex predator will answer questions you may not even have formed yet. In this much-needed core text you will get to know the anomalies of trading, its contradictions and the nonsense that gets repeated so often.

And that is not all, because the big one comes next: I publish my own research on the presence of AI in the markets. In a chapter-length study I show that artificial intelligence really is present in the markets and strongly influences how they work. Why is that remarkable? Because you will not read about the connection between the markets and AI anywhere else.

The book's 10 chapters. Click a title for a short taste of each.

1 Foreword: how does this actually work?

I show that knowledge, experience and self-awareness are all needed for this market "game of chance".

2 Who am I?

In this not overly long chapter I introduce myself. I am a trader too. I risk my own money. I lost enough, and learned from cheats and con artists, until I found the real strategy.

"I am not handing out advice I have never tested from the outside, safely away from personal risk. I was a trader, I am a trader."

3 Trouble on the course

In this chapter I go through the anomalies and contradictions of the markets, so you do not have to repeat them.

"The market is like a big casino where everyone is drinking. If you can hold off from drinking, you will be fine."

- Warren Buffett
4 What is the market good for?

In this section you get to know the fundamentals of the markets, how they came about and how they work.

"Money is nothing other than the measure of our decisions."

- Ozark
5 The trader

In this chapter you, the trader, come under the magnifying glass. The motivations behind trading, the different trader types, and how you can go from average to above average.

"If there is no new information about a given share or bond, we might as well roll a die to guess how its price will move."

- Christakis Georgiou
6 The strategy

Why do retail strategies work, or fail to? What is the difference between fundamental and technical strategies? Value and dividend-based strategies, overpricing and hype. An unconventional approach to trading strategies.

"After all, what everyone already knows no longer counts as wisdom in the markets."

- André Kostolany
7 AI

AI, artificial intelligence, is self-improving problem-solving software that has by now set foot in the markets too. It can uncover connections that in most cases put it in a winning position. AI is the market's Grand Game Master, the market itself. How can you still be a successful trader against that headwind? This chapter tells you.

"There are two kinds of people in this world, my friend: those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig."

- The good, the bad and the ugly
8 Mental preparation

This chapter introduces you to the mental side of trading. The weak points, self-sabotage, the fundamentals and the mental strategies that work, along with exercises and recommendations for self-awareness and self-development. I arm you with the full mental arsenal you need for the rough terrain of the markets.

"Sometimes hope is the greatest obstacle to action."

- Amer
9 And finally…

The last chapter sums up everything that will make you think of the sunny side rather than the rough end when trading comes to mind. The essence of the book:

"Some people look after you, the rest hunt you."

- X-men
10 Something of a farewell

This is the chapter where I help you set out on the path of self-awareness and of becoming a successful trader. We ask the uncomfortable questions you previously did not want to think about, or were not bold enough to answer. But I will not let go of your hand: I also recommend credible, professionally outstanding sources where you can keep learning without the risk of a dead end.

I am not claiming that you read Facing AI: Trader strategies against the market's apex predator and instantly become a black-belt trader. No. This book prepares you for the pitfalls of trading, honestly and without bias.

Who is it for?

Facing AI is for you if…

  • … you are planning a career change and want to step into the world of trading,
  • … you are at the start of your trading career and want to make as few mistakes as possible,
  • … you have been trading for a while but keep running into failure,
  • … you work as a trader but find the stress harder and harder to handle,
  • … you want to train yourself from an average trader into a seriously good one,
  • … you are an outsider with no background in this, but the world of the markets interests you.

Facing AI: Trader strategies against the market's apex predator serves up the key information that helps you reach your trading goal in an outspoken, forceful and forthright way. Whether that goal is the constant buzz and adrenaline, or building financial wellbeing. The two can work together, too. If you do not believe me, read the book. You will not be bored, that much I can promise.

Credibility

I am not talking into thin air: I do not only say and teach it, I trade too

  • Repetition is the mother of learning, and these are not empty phrases.
  • I have worked as a trader and an instructor for more than 12 years.
  • I have been through both heaven and hell.
  • I do not put other people's money at risk, but my own.
  • I have collected good friends and enemies alike.
  • I offer knowledge that on your own would take at least 10 years of experience and a great deal of wasted money to acquire.
  • I do not dwell on the past, I look ahead: nowhere else will you read this comprehensively about the relationship between the markets and AI. And about how to turn it to your own advantage.
  • Through my group, mentoring and coaching programmes, strengthening the psychological side of trading, I have been helping traders become more successful and earn more for X years.
Isn't this just self-promotion?

Reviews

If you do not believe me, listen to others

In this book Kata brilliantly sums up and unpacks the things most books of this kind leave out, and which it would be a big mistake to ignore. Based on its content, I would recommend Facing AI to anyone with experience of the market and of the emotional rollercoaster that comes with trading. While reading it you can feel that Kata shares the material through her own experiences, which makes the language easy to follow and gives you the sense that she has drawn us readers into the story too, so we relive part of our own experiences and memories along the way, making the read emotionally more memorable. For me this book is a new must-read on my list, and I am certain I will come back to it again and again.

This book has real value, not just a price. There are countless books about the markets, but none of them deal with the real, genuinely real, whys. And that is exactly the point. What is it? Why? How? This book answers those questions, thanks to Kata's personal research. Beyond that it also covers the trader's mental rollercoaster, which is useful for every trader.

I warmly recommend this book even to people who do not enjoy reading but are interested in how the market really works.

A very honest and fantastic account from a trader, told with Kata's own humour. It is not only for traders, because anyone will recognise the stages a person goes through when choosing this path. It also points the way for those who want to get rich quickly in the markets… Spoiler: those who want to get rich quickly only need to read a few pages.

It was a fantastic experience. Thank you!
